Choosing the correct fireplace

Choosing the correct fireplace
Choosing a new Marble fireplace should be an exciting experience. There are many options available, different styles, materials and fuel types. Some fireplaces need a full chimney, others a flue, whilst some do not need any type of chimney or flue at all. Fireplaces don't have to be restricted to a living room, many fireplaces are installed in utility rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and so on.

Considerations when buying a Fireplace
One of the first things you should check is how your chimney works. Most chimneys draw smoke from a relatively small opening. Before you select your fireplace, give careful thought to whether it will burn solid fuel (wood or coal) or whether it will use gas or electricity. Electric fireplaces can be easily installed by a professional fitter and of course you don't need a chimney. A reputable fireplace supplier will be happy to answer questions by telephone or email: so if in doubt, just ask.

Design considerations
A beautifully designed Marble fireplace will enhance any room. The style of your property may dictate your choice. However, a period style can look stunning in a modern interior, and vice versa. The design proportions should suit the room. The fireplace should be no more than approximately half the height of the ceiling, or it could be overwhelming. From a practical point of view, you may not want much heat in certain rooms.

Select your fireplace material carefully. The stone, marble or wood should work aesthetically with your furnishings, in relation to colour and texture. If you are redecorating a room, choose the fireplace before anything else. It will then be much easier to match the decor. A bespoke fireplace design is always worth considering. A tip is to use a photograph or drawing, to help with the design.

What will you put on the mantel?
The mantel on your fireplace is the perfect spot to put candle holders, a clock, ornaments or family photographs. During special occasions, such as birthdays and at Christmas, a fireplace really comes into its own as the centrepiece for a room.

As the seasons change
A beautiful fireplace with its welcoming hearth will be at its best during the colder months of the year. When the seasons change and the weather becomes warmer, it will continue to add grandeur to a room.

At the end of a busy day, nothing quite beats putting your feet up by a cosy fire. A fireplace is a great investment for a home and will provide you with years of pleasure.
